Overall, this course is designed to give each student a practical yet sound, theological understanding of the Gospels. The greater the student’s ability to rightly divide the truth contained in the Gospels, the more profound and focused will be his presentation of the Gospel to the unbelieving. The student will also have a more enhanced understanding of the remainder of the New Testament. On a more specific note, this course will attempt to provide its students with the social and historical setting of the Gospel story, and to see through these four portraits of the Savior (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) the church’s testimony concerning Jesus. We will present our Lord as Israel’s long awaited Messiah, emphasizing both his humanity and his divinity, and “declaring him to be the Son of God with power” (Romans 1:4).
