A Special Gift From Nike Made It Possible For This Young Man With Cerebral Palsy To Attend College On His Own.

Every morning we go to work and implement our ambitious plans without thinking about everyday affairs. But there are people in the world for whom self-care and even movement – are the biggest challenge. Matthew Walzer is among such people. This young man was born with cerebral palsy. Despite his physical problems, he seeks to live fully. Matthew learned to dress himself, but, unfortunately, he lacks agility to tie the laces on his shoes.

“By the time you turn 16, it gets frustrating or embarrassing if you’re out with your friends and your shoe comes untied and you have to ask your friend, ‘Hey, can you bend down and tie my shoe for me?“‘ Walzer said.

When the young man was in high school, he wrote a letter to Nike and asked to create shoes for athletes with special needs. He needed shoes that does not require lacing, but has a good stability.

“My dream is to go to the college of my choice without having to worry about someone coming to tie my shoes everyday,” Walzer wrote in the letter.

3 years later Nike began to produce shoes for people with disabilities. Perhaps for most people shoes is a way to diversify their style. But for people like Matthew Walzer, shoes is an important component that helps them to feel fully in society!
